Green Lawns make your yard and house better looking and increase the value of your property.  A full lawn of green grass can make you the envy of the neighborhood!

There are a few secrets to having a green lawn.  First, water your lawn every day, especially if you live in a dry climate in a state such as California.  Also, use fertilizer on your lawn.  The vitamins and minerals in fertilizers help keep the grass strong and healthy.  Healthy, well fertilized grass is the key to having a green lawn.

Weed killers should be applied to your lawn, but not too often.  I recommend only using weed sprays about once every two weeks.  Be sure to look for a weed killer that does not harm grass.  Remember that green lawns are made of healthy green grass!

Some people are impatient when it comes to getting a green lawn.  Rather than planting grass seeds, watering and fertilizing them, and waiting for them to grow, they want a lawn of green grass by the weekend.  Thanks to modern gardening, this is possible.  The answer is sod.

Sod refers to sections of grass that are grown in a country meadow, harvested, and delivered to places that need grass.  While sod can be expensive, the results are immediate.  Beautiful sections of green grass are laid down on a yard.  The roots of the grass will grow and work their way into the soil.  After a few weeks, the grass will effectively be part of your yard.

If growing a green lawn has not worked for you despite your best efforts at watering and fertilizing, then you may want to purchase sod.  Not only skilled gardeners should be able to enjoy green lawns!

Landscaping is an important way to keep your property looking its best.  In addition to a green lawn covered with well-mowed grass, the trees, mulching, and other plants on your property also contribute to the overall apperance.

For most people, it is best to hire a professional landscaping service.  A professional landscaper will be able to recommend trees, shrubs, and flowers that will complement the appearance of your house and yard.  A good local landscaper will also know which plants grow best in the climate where you live.  For example, if you live outside of Phoenix you may want to have a cactus or two in your yard, while someone in Vermont might want to plant a few maple trees.

Green lawns are great, but proper landscaping can make your property look even better!

Weeds are an annoying problem when you are trying to grow a nice green lawn.  Fortunately, there are many natural and chemical weed killers that can help you get rid of weeds and keep them from growing back.

Chemical sprays such as RoundUp (c) are an excellent way to get rid of weeds.  These sprays kill almost every variety of weed including poison ivy, dandelions, and brush.  Studies show that they are safe to use.  The convenience of applying RoundUp (c) makes it a good choice for many homeowners.  When you need to get rid of weeds growing through cracks in your driveway or sidewalk, chemical weed killer sprays are one of the best options.

There are more natural ways to get rid of weeds.  If you do not want to spray an artificial chemical on your lawn, consider weeding the old fashioned way.  That’s right, roll up your sleeves and the pull the weeds out by hand!  I realize that this is labor intensive, but it is still one of the most effective methods of getting rid of weeds safely without harming plants you want to keep.  This is how I weed my flower beds and vegetable garden.

For large areas that you want to keep clear of not only weeds but also grass and other plants, consider using salt.  This is an ancient method that is still effective today.  Sprinkle coarse rock salt on the top of the soil.  As the salt is absorbed into the ground, it will extract moisture from the soil making it virtually impossible for most plants to grow.  This will get rid of all the weeds, but it will also kill the grass on your green law, so be careful!
